Some states have laws which protect workers' rights to engage in legal activities when they are away from work. Most of these laws are about alcohol and tobacco. Every law requires that workers follow the rules while they are at work. If your out-of-work activities affect your performance at work, these laws will not protect you.

Some states also have laws protecting workers for political activity or making sure they can take time off to vote.
